Bamburgh Castle dominates this part of the Northumberland coast, and is truly spectacular. Our time in the Borders in August 2018, allowed for a great series of day trips from our base in Duns, one of which was to Bamburgh.
On arrival in the village from the north, on the left there is a grassy Car Park next to the Churchyard and immediately across from the RNLI Grace Darling Museum.

The Grace Darling Memorial above, which is in the Churchyard looks out over the North Sea the Church itself is pretty and well worth an explore.

The RNLI Grace Darling Museum is a wonderful tribute to the young heroine, but also a brilliant insight to life on a lighthouse in the 19th century, strongly recommend a visit .
A number of Cafe/ Restaurant/ Pub options can be found in the village and excellent public toilets.
Branxton & Floddon Field
And not far away, if your imagination is up to it just outside the village of Branxton you can find the Battle of Floddon battlefield and the pretty St. Pauls Church as part of that commemoration. The history of the battle is intriguing, as is the number of combatants recorded as being slain in the battle itself, whose bodies have never been found. In the peace of this setting, it’s hard to imagine the savagery of a battle being waged.
