Glenbrittle

The Sligachan Hotel lies at the epicentre of the Isle of Skye. From there head west for Glenbrittle, ignore the Fairy Pools on the way, as if you fancy a good walk up into the mountain of Skye then the Black Cuillins are for you.

Head for the Glenbrittle Camp Site right by the beach, and having parked, enjoy coffee & cake at the excellent Camp Shop. You will also find lots of info and maps on the walks available from there, and a handy toilet.

Walk to Sgurr Alasdair

On the day we did our walk, the weather was a little threatening, so we headed straight up the hillside at the rear of the Camp Site, and followed the burn up.  As you climb and it’s an easy plod on an excellent track, to the left you will see Loch an Fhir-bhallaich, and a separate circular route is available that way returning back to Glenbrittle.

In our case we walked up the main track for about an hour until we needed our lack lunch and enjoyed that and the magnificent views up into the Black Cuillins and back out to sea.

The track is easy to follow and we could see others who had gone on further and where others had pushed on up the walk, it’s your call how far you want to go, and there are many options to consider.

With rain threatening , the Black Cuillins we’re starting to dissapear into the mist, we returned to the beach and to paddle tired feet.
