The First Travel Blog

This is the first of our Travel Blogs, and records a single days experiences that probably encapsulate what we really wanted as “ Over60s”, from post retirement travel.

This was Year 1 of retirement, work over and time that elusive commodity to travel and explore! Our visit to the Isle of Skye and Loch Coruisk in particular came in early September 2018 after 3 months travelling around the U.K. and Europe, and a time you might think we might have been “ travel weary “!

But NO, not at all and in a sense whilst we had amazing adventures prior to, please check out our other Blogs, we had saved the best to Last!

Loch Coruisk & the MV Bella Jane

In this picture above our boat the MV Bella Jane has just left Loch Coruisk, Black Cuillins after a memorable day which started with the MV Bella Jane taking us from Elgol and a smooth trip into the Loch.

On the way we have seen basking seals, dolphins, fantastic birdlife , received brilliant information from the crew and had amazing views.

Walking into Loch Coruisk

Once at the foot of the Loch , our landing and a careful embarkation up the metal ladder then presents us with a range of walk options from a circumnavigation of the Loch itself, we think about 3 hours, to just more modest local wanderings.

We headed up the western side of the Loch, a reasonable  path, beautiful whale back rock to clamber over.

After an hour of walking up the Loch, sometimes a bit wet under foot, this is Skye after all, we found a place to eat lunch. Even in the mist and occasional rain showers the views to the head of the loch and on the return whence we had come are superb.

At the prerequisite time the MV Bella Jane is waiting and with a hot cuppa we enjoy the trip back to Elgol.

Skye requires a bit of effort on the part of the traveller to get there in the first place. And then wanting to get to places like Loch Coruisk, again a bit of effort is required, single track roads, changeable weather, sea trip and then a hike to enjoy the peace, tranquility and views.

Critically to make the most of time on Skye and excursions to Loch Coruisk, one needs time, and as Over60s Retired persons, this is the time.
